Liver Enzymes
Liver enzymes help rejuvenate and even regenerate your liver, and keep it functioning at 100% efficiency. The liver itself has powerful regenerative properties. Up to 60-70 per cent of the liver can actually be destroyed through toxic build up, cancerous growth etc. but then the liver can completely regenerate itself to a full organ. It will do this automatically, but including liver enzymes in your diet is going to improve and support the process even more.
Antioxidants: protective and cleansing, found in fresh raw juices such as carrots, celery, beetroot, dandelions, apples, pears and green drinks such as wheat grass juice, spirulina (a micro algae rich in vegetable protein, beta carotene, iron and vitamin B12).
Essential Fatty Acids: such as flax seeds (ground and fresh), oily fish, avocado, fresh raw nuts and seeds, cold pressed fresh vegetable oil and seed oil.
Lecithin: these liver enzymes are a dieters dream – they improve the liver’s ability to metabolize fats and allows cholesterol to disperse in water so that it can be transported around to the body where it is needed – or eliminated if necessary. It is particularly valuable for those with the condition of a fatty liver for example caused by a poor diet or alcoholism and in need of a thorough liver cleansing.
Methionine: a sulphur-rich amino acid essential for detoxification. Found in legumes, eggs, fish, garlic, onions, seeds and meat.
Natural Sulphur: found in garlic, onions, leeks, shallots, cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and Brussels sprouts.
Selenium: a potent antioxidant that detoxifies free radicals. Found in brazil nuts, kelp, brown rice, molasses, seafood, wheat germ, whole grains, garlic and onions.
Vitamin K: has a critical role in blood clotting and bone nourishment and is found in green leafy vegetables and alfalfa sprouts.
Milk Thistle; a herb {Silybum marinum) found to have remarkable protective effects and is very effective as part of a liver detox. It contains a substance called ’silymarin’ which protects the liver from severe toxins. For example, there is a poisonous mushroom that can lead to death in 40 per cent of the people who actually ingest it, but taking a milk-thistle extract (or the active ingredient silymarin) can neutralize its affect. It is also one of those herbs prescribed for chronic hepatitis, the inflamed liver condition. Milk thistle is one of those liver enzymes that is excellent for improving the functioning of the liver and its regeneration.
